In September of 1942 the Marine Air Group 25 MAG25 relocated from Ewa Hawaii to Tontouta New Caledonia. The South Pacific Combat Air Transport Squadron flying R4Ds the military version of the DC3 started flying support missions to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Their cargo was 3963 pounds of Aviation Gas in eleven 55 gallon drums. In addition to the fuel drums they carried a mechanic a doctor and a nurse because on the return flight they would be carrying wounded Unites States Marines ultimately bound for the Royal Medical Hospital in Brisbane Australia. The flight was 835 nm as the crow flies one way. In 1942 there were very few navigation aids in the South Pacific to simulate these limited resources you should only use short range non direction beacons. In between the NDB ranges you must use your time and distance skills and watch those wave tops to see which direction the wind is blowing.
